M41 Walker Bulldog Tank

This M41 Walker Bulldog Tank is located at the Fort d'Embourg. This type light tank was used by the American Army between 1952 and 1956. In the Vietnam War, the South-Vietnamese army used the M41 Walker Bulldog for the invasion of North Vietnam and actions against the Vietcong.

Due to the emblem painted on the turret, this tank belonged before to the 4è Régiment de Chasseurs à Cheval (4th Regiment of Hunters on Horses or 4de Jagers te Paard in Flemish).
During the period this tank was used, this French speaking regiment was based in Arnsberg (Germany) belonging to the Belgian Forces in Germany. Its job was in a light cavalry regiment for reconnaissance.
The emblem represented the mascot, an Irish setter dog called Shako, which is also the name given to some military hats some centuries ago.

Picture 2 shows the tank around 1977.
