Memorial Three Soldiers

Sculpted by Frederick Hart and unveiled in 1984 in response to adverse views to Maya Lins' Memorial Wall to appease those who wanted a more traditional approach. Maya Lyn objected to the statue being placed near her monument so it was placed away from, but facing, the wall.
The figures were based on seven serving marines at the time of sculpting and are identifiable as European American (centre), African American (right) and Latino American (left).
Together with the Vietnam Memorial Wall and the Vietnam Women's Memorial the Three Soldiers statue form The Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
