Roadblock Seraing

Le barrage du câble, translated as blockade with cables.

These cast iron posts are in fact roadblocks. This road was an importat road throug the woods of Saint-Laurent and Saint-Jean. From this location, which is on higher grounds, the fort of Chaudfontain could be taken under fire. With these roadblocks the passage could be closed for traffic. The tires arround the poles were placed by the people of the neighbourhood to prevent damage at their cars when passing these poles.

An iron cable could be tensioned between the two posts so traffic could be halted and obstructed. During the years befor the 2nd world war these were not only cars but also horses with carriage.

There roalblocks also were placed at 25 meter and 100 meter distance of a bunker.
See for example roadblock near bunker Ag 1 at Argenteau.

The poles are unlike the poles near the bunkers, not numbred ore coded.
