Memorial Former Jewish School Jekerstraat

This double school was built in 1927 by Public Works for two public schools for ordinary primary education. The school at number 84 was called the Vondel School and the one at number 86 the Heymans School. These were discontinued in 1934.

At the beginning of World War II, it housed two Jewish schools and was renamed Joodsche School numbers 10 and 11. Jewish children were allowed to attend only a few all-Jewish schools designated by the occupier. Number 86 was used by the Hitlerjugend after the deportation of Jewish students from September 1943.

In connection with this, a plaque was placed on the building in February 2018 in memory of the Jewish students and teachers who attended- or worked at these schools and were deported by order of the German occupiers.
