Memorial Place des Martyrs

This monument commemorates the 14 inhabitants of Wandre who were executed at this spot on the night of August 15-16, 1914, without cause. For this reason, they are called martyrs.

Also, 12 houses were set on fire.

The youngest victim was only 17 years old !

In two cases, father and son were executed. This sad fate struck Jacques and Servais Couvelance, and Gilles and Gilles Joseph Lorquet.
