Cycling route Death Valley de Peel - Wehrmachthuisje (De Stobbe) (#8)

Wehrmacht house

In the middle of 'De Slobbe' between the forest and Eeuwelse Loop, which are part of the 't Woold golf course, there is a small building, the remains of a so-called Wehrmacht house. Since 2013 it has been renovated and turned into a mini-museum. Wehrnachts houses were built during built by the Germans during the war as part of the Kamm Huber Line. This air defense line was aimed at shooting down Allied bombers flying into Germany at an early stage. Initially, the system relied on a combination of listening dishes, strong spotlights on their own generators and anti-aircraft guns on the ground (Flugzeugabwehr guns, FLAK for short).
Halfway through the war, German fighter planes were equipped with radar and bombers were now shot down by pursuing fighters. After the war, a family with five children lived in the house on het Woold. It also served as a shelter for young cattle for many years. The current museum can be visited by appointment.
