Office NSB Representative for state affairs

The building at Kortenaerkade 12 in The Hague has a rich and varied history. Originally built in 1923 as part of the headquarters of the central management of the PTT, it was designed by government architect G.C. Bremer. The building is an example of representative government architecture from the early 20th century, with a traditionalist layout and contemporary decorative elements. Characteristic features include the mansard roof, symmetrical façades, and influences of expressionism and Art Deco in the sculpture and decorative ironwork, including work by sculptor J. van Lunteren.

During World War II, the building was given a different function. It then served as the office of the NSB representative for Water Management and Transport. This function was part of the occupation structure of the National Socialist Movement (NSB) in the Netherlands.

After the war, the building was taken back into use by the PTT. In 2015–2016, the building underwent a thorough renovation and redesign to serve as an educational building for the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. During this renovation, attention was paid to both functional adjustments and restoring the monumental values of the building.

Today, the building is a national monument and part of The Hague's architectural heritage. Together with the adjacent building at Kortenaerkade 11, it forms an architectural and typological unit, connected by a brick-built sky bridge dating from 1923.
