The Bellman hangar, a WWII transportable aeroplane shed, was built in late 1940 by the Ministry of Aircraft Production as one of four dispersal hangars for Vickers-Armstrongs at Brooklands. Originally used for final assembly of Wellington and Warwick bombers, it later supported post-war aircraft production and housed Vickers’ Guided Weapons Department.
In the late 1950s, the hangar served as a mock-up facility for airliner prototypes like the VC10 and BAC One Eleven. Listed as Grade II in 1999, it remains an important example of Bellman design, retaining its original corrugated iron cladding. Restored and relocated as part of Brooklands Museum’s 2015 Aircraft Factory Revival Project, the hangar now features improved preservation measures.
The hangar now forms part of Brooklands Museum as an external historical object on the site.
