Like some other American cemeteries, Margraten also has a Wall of the Missing. On the two walls on the weather side of the Square of Honour with the Mirror Pond are the names of 1722 soldiers who went missing and never received a grave, or who are buried as “unknown”.
Under the inscription:
'Here are the recorded the names of Americans who gave their lives in the service of their country and sleep in unknown graves' and in Dutch, 'Here are inscribed the names of Americans who gave their lives in the service of their country and found a final resting place in an unknown grave'
each missing soldier's name, army unit and the state from which he came is inscribed on the wall. Relatively many of the missing on this wall are crew members of bombers that were shot down. Next to the name of those missing who were later recovered and/or positively identified is a bronze rosette.
