Exhibit building Soviet Russian Special Camp 2 Buchenwald

Buchenwald was liberated by the American army, but as a result of the agreements made at Yalta, Thuringia came under Russian control and the camp was taken over by the Soviet Union in July 1945. It was then used as a “Spezial Lager (2)” in which Nazis and opponents of communism were imprisoned. Between 1945 and 1950, approximately 28,500 people were imprisoned here, of whom more than 7,000 died.

The exhibition in the exhibition building at the rear edge of the camp tells the story of this history. The building is located directly opposite the cemetery of the victims.
