The farm was built in 1934 and was set up in May 1940 as a so-called "aid post" or a wounded nest for the defence sector of the 1st company 1st battalion 26th infantry regiment. This unit had been given this part of the Maas-Waal Canal to defend in May 1940. The farm was also known at the time as the Poelen family farm.
Wounded people could be transported from this aid post by stretcher or wounded car to an aid station located in the village of Wijchen. An aid station was located approximately 2 kilometres behind the defence line of each regiment.
Other aid stations in the defence sector of the 1st company 1st battalion 26th infantry regiment were located in the farms De Weezenhof, Blankenberg and the school in Heumen.
