Memorial South African Labour Corps

This Commonwealth War Graves Commission Memorial in The Company Gardens was unveiled by H.R.H. The Princess Royal on 22 January 2025. It is the first of the Commission's memorials to address the 'pervasive racism' and to commemorate the 1772, mostly black, men who served and died as labourers, particularly in East Africa with no known graves.
The memorial is of South African design and has the names of the missing engraved on timber from South African trees.
