Around the Grée mill, which served as an observation post at the time, fierce fighting took place on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944 between French paratroopers who had landed near the mill and the German troops manning the post. The French were part of Operation Dingson, which aimed to disrupt the German troops as much as possible, together with the resistance. The bullet holes in the photos are a reminder of this battle, which cost the life of one French corporal.
