War Memorial Montauville

The lower section of the cemetery was established after 1945.
It is not called Le Petant, which dates back to the First World War, but Necropole Nationale de Montauville.

In this newer section stands a monument commemorating the victims of the many nationalities of prisoners of war who did not return.
After the French surrender in June 1940, 1.85 million French soldiers were taken prisoner of war and transferred to camps in Nazi Germany, including special Frontalags for colonial soldiers in the German occupation zone.

The inscription on the monument reads: "The former prisoners of war have erected this monument in memory of their comrades who traveled with them on the path of exile and never knew the way back."
