Information Panel Church Sainte-Marie-du-Mont

Information panel with the following text:

Throughout the night, the country was crisscrossed by German patrols and lost paratroopers, alone or in small groups.

Alone in one field near the village, the American Major Larry Legere looked after his comrades when he was hailed by a German patrol. Luckily, the Major spoke very good French. In the darkness, he shouted back, "Excuse me. I'm on my way back from my cousin's", and in the same time, he launched at them one hand grenade, thus killing the little German patrol.

Later on, Larry Legere was wounded in the thigh by arm explosive bullet while attacking the nearby village of Pouppeville, which was held by German grenadiers.
