During the first hours of D-Day, 175 Naval Combat Demolition Unit "Frogmen" landed on Utah and Omaha beaches to clear obstacles in advance of the amphibious landing. Of the 175 Sailors. 91 were killed or wounded, a casualty rate of 52%, one of the highest endured by any unit of the US Armed Forces during D-Day-

Their brave actions forged an international relationship with the citizens of France and Sainte Matie du Mant, one of the first towns liberated in Europe dating World War 2.
