The former town hall of Edam was built in 1736 in Louis XIV style and opened a year later. The stucco work was restored in 1942. The NSB mayor of Edam-Volendam and Purmerend, Hendrik August van Baak, was liquidated by the resistance on 31 January 1945.
Edam's group headquarters (Defence Line of Amsterdam) was located in the town hall. The tower served as an air raid warning station.
The building has been a national monument since 1967 and houses the Edam Museum.
