Farm "Van Der Craats"

In May 1940, the Van der Craats family farm was located at this location. During the German invasion on May 10, 1940, the commander of the 1st Section of the 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, 44th Infantry Regiment, was stationed at this farm. This section belonged to one of the outposts of the Betuwe Line.

The 3rd Company, 1st Battalion, 44th Infantry Regiment, consisted of four sections, which were distributed over various outposts.

The section at "Van der Craats" was tasked with guarding the Waal River. One group from this section was in the battle position at the Zomerkade, and two groups at "Van der Craats."

The units of this section remained in their positions until the morning of May 13, 1940. Because a nearby section had withdrawn and was therefore in danger of being surrounded, they withdrew to the main line.
