Since 1725, Lauriergracht 116 served variously as an orphanage, military lodgings, transit center, and youth hostel. It housed returning officers, medical personnel, and later the German Wehrmacht. During World War II, the Germans built a bomb shelter behind the building. The bunker was demolished after the war.
Around 1953, it ceased to function as a repatriation center.
