Rolls of Honour Sutton Montis

Inside Holy Trinity Church is the Roll of Honour for those men of the Parish of Sutton Montis who served and died in both World Wars.

George Edward Taylor-Whitehead
2nd Lt. 9th Lancers died Sept 29. 1914
Albert Newman
Lce. Cpl. Coldstream Guards. died Sept 7 1914.
Frederick Charles Hamblin
A.B. R.N.V.R. died Feb 3, 1917
Ernest William, Hamblin
A.B. R.N.V.R. died April 23 1917.
Desmond Lisburn Curtis Craig
Lt. Com. R.N. died Oct 19, 1940Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life
for his friends"
The plaque was initially unveiled in 1920 by Mrs Hamblin, a humble member of the congregation who had four sons who served in WW1 and two of those are listed on the memorial.

There is also a Roll of Honour to all those that served in the First World War

F.C. Hamblin. Able Seaman. Bristol Z/1354. Hawke Bn. R.N. Div. R.N.V.R. Died 3 Feb 1917. Buried at Queen's Cemetery, Bucquoy, France.
E.W. Hamblin. Able Seaman. Bristol Z/1353. drake Bn. R.N. Div. R.N.V.R. Died 23 April 1917. Commemorated on Arras Memorial, France.
D.L.C. Craig. Lieutenant Commander. HMS Venetia. Died 19 Oct 1940. Aged 36. Commemorated Plymouth Naval Memorial.
