Along the Zeevangsdijk between Kwadijk and Axwijk stood a fort intended to protect the Middelie–Axwijk road and the Zaandam–Enkhuizen railway line. In 1884, the foundations for bombproof buildings began, but construction was halted during the mobilization of 1914 and never resumed. The fort remained limited to earthen ramparts.
During the 1916 flood, ammunition and equipment were temporarily stored in the storage shed. The sand from the ramparts was then used for sandbags, and later in 1959 for road construction. In 1962, the last remnants disappeared: the ramparts were excavated, the moat filled in, and the foundations removed.
All that remains of the fort are the restored fort guard's house, the storage shed, and a few boundary markers. The surrounding polder landscape has been largely preserved, although the land has been partially parceled out.
