This lock had three openings: two on the west side for the Wijkerbroekpolder reception basin and one on the east side for the defensive moat along the dike. Cut-outs in the inundation dike allowed the water to flow into the same polder.
The lock was built with a view to the future caponier of Fort aan de St. Aagtendijk within easy reach. The superstructure and central pier were easily removed, creating a cut-out in the high dike and providing an unobstructed view of the inundated area.
