Command Post 3-8 G.B. "Villa Waalheuvel"

During the May days of 1940, the command post of the 3rd Company, 8th Border Battalion, was established at Villa Waalheuvel in Ubbergen. A communications post was also stationed there. This communications post was part of a network designed to transmit alerts as quickly as possible.

When German troops invaded the Netherlands on May 10, 1940, an S.O.S. signal was sent from this communications post to Fort Boven Lent. This message was immediately relayed to the battalion commander of the 8th Border Battalion, who was stationed in Lent.

The commander was Captain F.J. Th. Rutten.
