Villa Waalheuvel Ubbergen
During the May days of 1940, a Dutch military communications post was stationed at Villa Waalheuvel in Ubbergen. This communications post was part of a network designed to transmit alerts as quickly as possible.
When German troops invaded the Netherlands on May 10, 1940, an S.O.S. signal was sent from this communications post to Fort Boven Lent. This message was immediately relayed to the battalion commander of the 3rd Company, 8th Border Battalion, stationed in Lent.
