Stumbling Stones Herculesstraat 13

These brass memorial plaques (Stolpersteine or stumbling stones) commemorate:

* ELIAS SPITZ (born 1874, interned 18-05-1944, deported 1944, from Westerbork, murdered 19-01-1945, Bergen-Belsen).
* LENA SPITZ-HOOFIËN (born 1879, interned 19-11-1943, deported 1944 ,from Westerbork, murdered 15-02-1945, Bergen-Belsen).
* ABRAHAM SPITZ (born 1910, interned 20-06-1944, deported 1944, from Westerbork, Bergen-Belsen, 'lost train', died 23-04-1945, Tröbitz).
* JACOBUS SPITZ (born 1912, interned 20-06-1943, deported 1944, from Westerbork, murdered 27-03-1945, Bergen-Belsen).
* DAVID SPITZ (born 1918, interned 27-08-1942, deported, uit barracks Dossin, murdered 30-09-1942, Central Europe).
* MARCELLA SPITZ-DE VRIES (born 1917, interned 27-08-1942, deported 01-09-1942, from barracks Dossin, murdered 04-09-1942, Auschwitz).

These Stolpersteine lie here for Jewish war victims persecuted, deported and murdered in World War II.

"Stolpersteine" is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of the last voluntary residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the victim�s, date of birth, and fate. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: one human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.
