Stalag IX-C was a German prisoner-of-war camp near Bad Sulza, Thuringia, active from 1940 to 1945. It held a wide range of Allied soldiers—Polish, Belgian, French, British, Yugoslav, Italian, Canadian, American, and Commonwealth troops—many of whom were sent to forced labor detachments in nearby potassium mines. The camp also administered hospitals at Obermaßfeld and Meiningen, where captured Allied medical staff treated POWs. It was evacuated in March 1945, with prisoners forced on long marches before liberation by U.S. forces.
As for what remains today: the original camp structures at Bad Sulza no longer survive as a preserved site. The area has been redeveloped, but an information panel regarding the camp's history marks the Camp's location.
