At the bend in the Chemin d'Amermont, there is a small monument in memory of Chaplain Van Wesemael and three others who were executed by firing squad near this location, in the forest of Tapeux.
He and three other victims were murdered by the German army on September 4, 1944, by a firing squad.
They were:
VAN WESEMAEL Franz, age 28, born in Herselt chaplain in Trou-de-Bra.
JURDAN Alfred (Jules), age 21, member of the Front de l'Indépendance resistance movement, no further details known. Buried after the war in the cemetery of Herve.
THIRION Albin, 18 years old, resistance fighter, no further details known.
JANNE Paul, 20 years old, student at the University of Liège, resistance fighter with the Armée Secret, buried after the war in the Robermont cemetery near Liège.
