This memorial commemorates the three battalions of the “Salford Pals,” the 15th, 16th, and 19th Lancashire Fusiliers of the 32nd Division. The men manned the trenches at Authuille and bravely attacked the Redoubt at Thiepval on July 1, 1916, resulting in many casualties. Many are listed as missing in action. Thiepval Memorial commemorates the names of thousands of soldiers, including many from the Lancashire Fusiliers, who died in this area and have no known grave.
