Neues Museum

The Neues Museum was closed in 1939. On November 23, 1943, the museum was hit by bombs and many frescoes and other museum pieces were lost in the fire. In February 1945, Allied bombs destroyed the northwest wing and the connection to the Altes Museum, damaging both the southwest wing and the southeast facade. Reconstruction work was started in 1986.

Within the walls of the Neues Museum are still remains of the fighting for the German capital in April 1945.
