St. 501 Gruppenunterstand FL 106

On the eastern side of the Verklikkerpad, approximately 400 metres from the entry at Strandweg, lies a German bunker type St. 501 Gruppenunterstand. This infantry bunker was built by the Luftwaffe to protect the airfield of Haamstede. The Luftwaffe built more of these types of bunkers all round the airfield.

FL 106 is the registration code of the bunker. F is the sector in which the bunker lies, L means Luftwaffe. 106 is the number of the bunker. This St. 501 is provided with a Tobruk, which was not unusual for Atlantikwall-bunkers.

For more information about bunkers on Schouwen-Duiveland, read "De Atlantikwall op Schouwen-Duiveland, planning en realisatie 1940-1945", by P.C. Heijkoop and J. Rijpsma (in Dutch only).
