Dutch War Grave N.H. Cemetery

The N.H. cemetery contains the war grave of:

Sibe Jans Hoekstra, Pastor and Member of the Resistance
Born August 14, 1908 in Burum
Murdered on April 10 in Bakkeveen

Member of the Resistance belonging to NSF, OD and BS. His resistance card also mentions LO. On March 21, 1945, Hoekstra was arrested in his home and transferred via Winschoten to the Huis van Bewaring in Groningen. He and nine others were shot by Pieter Schaap at the edge of the forest near the Nije Drintsewei near Bakkeveen. His name is on the memorial site on the execution site. The memorial window - a stained glass window - in the Dutch Reformed Church in Ternaard and a wall painting of the Christian gymnasium in Leeuwarden also mention his name. In Midwolda the Dominee Hoekstrastraat is named after him.
