Commonwealth War Grave General Cemetery Vreeswijk

Frederick Henry Hooper is buried in the NH Cemetery of Vreeswijk, Nieuwegein, corporal to the South Staffordshire Regiment.

Hooper died on 26 September 1944 during the rescue operation to liberate British and Polish troops enclosed by the Germans at Oosterbeek. When everyone had crossed the Rhine, it turned out that the last boat had already left and Hooper had the option of being taken prisoner of war. made or to swim across the Rhine. In the early morning he went into the water, but already after 15 meters he came through difficulties due to the strong current and drowned. In November his body washed ashore at Vreeswijk, where he was buried on November 13 at the reformed cemetery.
