Weapon Droppings 1944 - 1945

The monument reminds the inhabitants of Lekkerkerk of the dropping of weapons in the last years of the Second World War.

Many people from Lekkerkerk were involved in these droppings. The dangerous work on the Wetering East was carried out in alternating shifts, selected by Leen Noordergraaf. Due to the silence of the people of Lekkerkerk, the risky droppings were not endangered.

The elements that were important in the arms drops are united in this work of art: the aircraft, the containers and parachutes with which the weapons and other equipment were delivered; the roses, symbols for the codes used to transmit messages via Radio Orange, and the chimney with which all the material was quickly transported to hiding places.
