Memorial Jan van der Wal Lekkerkerk

This monument at the cemetery in Lekkerkerk was erected in memory of Jan van der Wal, who was killed in action as a Dutch soldier in the former Dutch East Indies on 20 May 1949. During a night patrol in the vicinity of Lubuk Selasih (Sumatra), he went missing and was found seriously wounded the next day. He died on the way to the hospital, just shy of his 22nd birthday.

Jan van der Wal is buried at the Dutch War Cemetery Leuwigajah near Cimahi, Bandung.
