Memorial Raoul Meertens Brugge

This plaque has been erected in memory of Raoul Meertens, resident of Bruges. During the Second World War he was forced to work on the Atlantikwall near the Belgian coastline. During his time as worker, he gave information about the works to an old teacher who was member of the Belgian resistance.

In 1944, he joined the resistance movement 'Partisans Armés' and collected information about the 'Castle Ter Linden', a German radiostation in Sint-Michiels.

1. June 1944, Germans captured him and he was executed on 1. July 1944.
