Memorial 51st Highland Division Bréville-les-Monts

This memorial has been erected in memory of the 51st Scottish Division who fought during the Battle of Bois-des-Monts against the Germans (8-12 June 1944).

ON 10TH JUNE 1944 THE HIGHLAND DIVISION
MADE ITS FIRST ATTACK FROM THIS POSITION
IN THE BOIS DE MONTS TOWARDS BREVILLE
IN THIS AND THE ACTION AT CHATEAU ST. COME
110 MEN WERE KILLED IN TWO DAYS
VASTLY OUTNUMBERED AND AGAINST
FEROCIOUS COUNTER ATTACKS
THE HIGHLANDERS
HELPED TO SECURE THE ORNE BRIDGHEHEAD
ONLY BY STEADFAST DEDICATION
COURAGE AND SACRIFICE
