Memorial Jakob van Hoddis

At the entrance to the Hackeschen Höfen in the Rosenthaler Straße is a plaque situated to commemorate Jacob van Hoddis.

Jakob van Hoddis, a pseudonym for Hans Davidsohn, was a renowned Jewish expressionist poet from Berlin. From 1914 on he was treated in a psychiatric hospital. On 30 April 1942 all the patients and staff of the hospital, totalling around 500 persons, were deported to the Sobibor extermination camp. None of them survived.
