War Memorial Assenede

The war memorial which is erected for the First and the Second World War, is located on the Markt in Assenede.

On the street side of the monument are the names of the victims of Second World War to read the following text:
Tribute to our heroes
the war of 1940 - 1945
Killed
Hulstaert Ferdinand
Cases in the resistance
Verougstraete Christiaan
Political prisoners
Baeck Cyriel
De Geyter Leopold
Deported
Albert Dolleslagers
Snoeck Philemon
van den Bogaert Arsene
Maurits van Loo
Wauters Leonard


On the side of the church the names of the victims of WOI can be read.
Just above the pedestal of the monument on the side of the church is a plaque dedicated to the liberation of Assenede in 1944 with the following text:
"In commemoration"
"The liberation of Assenede on 18 and 19 September 1944.
Tribute to the Canadian Algonquin Regiment.
Many young lives were sacrificed for our liberation.
Assenede will never forget them.
Assenede 19 september 1999"
