Penal Camp Walchum (Emslandlager IV)

The camp was established in May 1935. Walchum was operated by the SA.

After 1942 the camp population consisted mainly of military convicts. In April 1945 the remaining prisoners (167) were moved to camp Aschendorfermoor. Seventy-two persons who died in Aschendorfermoor are buried on the Bockhorst/Esterwegen cemetery.

An information panel is located at the camp’s former location.
