Memorial Breeplein Church Rotterdam

There are two plaques on the church.
The first plaque on the church is a reminder of the three Jewish families who went into hiding in this church during World War II and survived the war.
Text on the Plaque:

IN THIS CHURCH FROM 1942 TO 1945
ON EITHER SIDE OF THE ORGAN
THREE JEWISH FAMILIES HIDDEN

THEY SURVIVED THE WAR
THANKS TO THE COURAGE OF PEOPLE
INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CHURCH

There is a second plaque on the side of the church (side of the Randweg). On that plaque is the following text, which partly differs from the plaque at the main entrance.

"This church was built in the year 1931, as well as both presbyteries.
The client was the church council of the Reformed Church of South Rotterdam (Katendrecht).
In the May days of 1940, the church served as an emergency hospital for the patients
of the Zuiderziekenhuis, which was then in the line of fire.
Red and white crosses were then placed on this facade, which are still visible today.

From 1942 - 1945, three Jewish families were hidden on either side of the organ.
Thanks to the courage of people inside and outside the church, they were able to experience the liberation.
