Castle Amerongen

The German emperor Wilhelm II and his first wife lived in exile in this castle from 1918 to 1920.

On May 12, 1940, at approximately 2:00 PM, the 1st Battalion of the 24th Infantry Regiment arrived in Amerongen. The staff then established a command post at Amerongen Castle. About two hours later, this unit moved on to Rhenen, as the situation at Grebbeberg became critical.
