Execution Ground l'Enclos des Fusillés

The Liège Citadelle is a large memorial park containing a cemetery and various memorials related to the 415 civilian resisters who were killed by the Nazis in World War 2. Here in the enclosed execution ground (Enclos des Fusillés) 271 civilians were shot. Others were executed elsewhere or died in combat, in prison or in hospital.

At the entrance is a monument with tall post and a brass plaque showing in the foreground a man lying at the foot of an execution post and in the background a woman comforting two children; the words on the plaque are "N’oublier pas mes enfants..."

Around the park are other memorials, including crosses on 99 actual graves as well as 317 crosses symbolizing other deaths and a plaque at Bloc 24 with the words "Ici des soldats sans uniforme détenus par l’occupant ont lutté et souffert pour leur idéal avant de partir vers la mort ou la déportation. 1940-1944."
