War Memorial Heemstede

This memorial commemorates 45 residents of Heemstede who were killed in World War II.

The monument 'Boek van de Namen' in Heemstede depicts an open book of black-gray granite. Underneath the book a square face of a Jerusalem stone has been buried. The open pages contain the names and ages of the 162 Jewish victims from Heemstede.

Below the book is the text:

1940 - 1945 5700 - 5705
In memory of the Jewish locals and people in hiding, who were murdered in:

Auschwitz Bergen-Belsen Buchenwald Dachau Dorohusk Groningen Lublin Mauthausen Oranienburg Sobibor Theresienstadt or in an unknown place

Tears flow from my eyes because of the disaster inflicted on my people
