'Lock Force' Memorial

The text on the memorial is:

In remembrance of those,
who lost their lives at this lock
for our freedom.

The 'Lock Force', an allied task force,
was involved in an ongoing battle in,
the period December 1944 - February 1945.

At the end of January 1945 there were also
other British frontline units in action at
the eastern side of the lock at the so called
"island" Osen.

The allied losses were approx.
24 killed, 30 wounded and 12 missing.

Fighting units involved
in order of action:

-4th Battalion Royal Welch Fusiliers
-2nd & 3rd bns. Monmouthshire Rgt.
-2nd bn. King's Shropshire Light Inf. Rgt.
-1st bn. Hereford Rgt.
-46th Commando Royal Marines
-8th bn. 3rd. Parachute Brigade
-1st bn. 291 US Inf. Rgt.
-1st British Commando Brigade
-10th Inter Allied Commando
