Commonwealth War Graves Fort Massey Cemetery

Fort Massey Cemetery in Halifax contains 41 Commonwealth war graves from the Second and 86 from the First World War, scattered throughout the cemetery

Fort Massey Cemetery contains twee special memorials for servicemen who were not found back after the explosion of an ammunition ship in Halifax Harbour, on 6 December 1917. In total, about 1,500 people were killed.

Halifax was the headquarters of Atlantic Command during the Second World War. Its extensive harbour, which was heavily defended, was the main port of embarkation for Canadian troops serving abroad.

Canadian cemeteries contains often also graves of war veterans. These graves have the same headstones as the war graves, but then only with a cross and not with a symbol of an army-unit.
