On the facade of Blekerssingel 56 are Marthinus Theunis Steyn portraits of the Boer leaders Marthinus Theunis Steyn (president of the Orange Free State), Paul Kruger (Boer leader of the uprise in the First Boer War (1880-1881) and president of the African Republic (Transvaal Republic) in the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902)) and Petrus Jacobus Joubert (Commander-General).
