Fort Prins Frederik Ooltgensplaat

Fort Prins Frederik is a fortress at Ooltgensplaat.

The cradle of the dutch air defense lies in this fort.In 1915. Lt Maas started with experiments for the air defense.

In the beginning of 1940 the fort was used as a prison for political prisoners.Among them were Rost van Tonningen, Adriaan Fey, Jan van den Hoonaard en Johannes Proost.

During the war the fortress was used by the Germans as a prison look out post.In the surroundings various widerstandsneste where build.

During the cold war a watch tower was placed.Due radar restrictions low flying airplanes could not be detected.

During 2019 renovation works were started.
