Biography

Reginald Donald Barker was born on October 30, 1907, in Massena, New York, USA, and later resided in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A salesman by profession and an Anglican by faith, Barker enlisted in the Canadian Army on July 2, 1941, at Petawawa Military Camp. He joined the 17th Canadian Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, rising to the rank of Lieutenant.

Barker had no prior military experience but quickly distinguished himself through training and service. He was fluent in English, French, and Spanish and held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University, specializing in Economics and Commerce. His military qualifications included driver certifications and artillery training.

Throughout his service, Barker was stationed in Canada and the UK, eventually deploying to France during World War II. Tragically, he was murdered by Waffen-SS soldiers on June 8, 1944, shortly after the D-Day landings.

In his will, Barker left his estate to his mother, Eva Barker, and in the event of her passing, to his siblings John Tinney Barker and Betty C. Barker.
