"Lieutenant Goodman, Nigerian Marine, was in charge of the tug Nunceaton with Captain Hayes, and conned and manoeuvred his ship throughout the operation. He displayed great skill and courage in performing a very difficult piece of seamanship, and on the week's voyage home, which was one of great hardship for the crew of the small tug, he co-operated most ably with Captain Hayes and was largely responsible for the safe return of his ship and the two German vessels, after constant breakdowns within sight of the Island. Throughout the operation, his coolness and skill ere a constant example to the crew."
