Biography

Gordon James Cruickshank attended Officer Cadet Training in Dunbar, Scotland, in 1941 before volunteering for the army in India. In June 1942, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion of the Bihar Regiment, which had been formed in Bengal during wartime from the existing 19th Hyderabad Regiment Territorial Units to fight the Japanese in Burma. He was involved in fierce fighting against the Japanese until they were driven out of Burma in March 1945. He was demobilised in September 1946 with the rank of Major.
